This has got to be the most ridiculous morning schedule I have ever seen. Couple that with how late Cam Newton goes to bed and it’s complete insanity. Absolutely no way this man gets enough sleep at night. No wonder Cam Newton has been garbage this year. He’s been trying to play the most difficult position in football on less than 5 hours of sleep a night.
I imagine Cam is doing this for the same exact reason that some players don’t wear sleeves during blizzard games. They’re trying to look tough. Except it doesn’t come off as tough. It just looks absolutely stupid. And I get that playing quarterback requires an insane amount of dedication and preparation. So who knows. Maybe Cam is waking up that early to study the playbook. Or to workout. Or to do rehab. And maybe he goes to sleep that late because he’s up studying the playbook or doing whatever he needs to do to feel prepared to play on Sunday. But there is no way five hours of sleep a night is enough for an NFL quarterback. Or anyone for that matter.
In fact I’d say most elite athletes get anywhere from 8-12 hours of sleep a night. Micheal Phelps won 8 gold medals and he said he took 2 to 3 hour naps during the day and slept 8 hours a night. Cam is getting less than half of that. So he’s clearly not sleeping enough. And it shows on the football field.
And now we get to the part of Cam Newton’s schedule that makes the least amount of sense. The fact that he is awake for almost four hours before he drinks any coffee. What is the point of that? Once you’ve been up for four hours you’re already awake. There is no need for coffee. If I waited four hours before my first cup of coffee of the day I’d get nothing done for the first four hours of my day. I’d be so grumpy and no one would be allowed to talk to me. Cam Newton has got to the the most irritable person in the world from 4:20am to 8:00am.
Bill Belichick has got to give Cam Newton some melatonin so that he sleeps more. Cause right now this is a Nightmare in New England. And there is absolutely no way that Cam can compete at 100% with this routine.
