The NHL is getting new sweaters. Every team in the league will be wearing something called a “Reverse Retro” jersey. A throw back jersey of sorts. It’ll pay homage to the teams jerseys from the 80’s and 90’s but with a modern flair. Hence “Reverse Retro.”
The “Reverse Retro” sweaters won’t be worn a ton. Just for special occasions. Not every jersey has been leaked, but some have been. But this little teaser does bring up some cool options for every team, including the Avalanche.
It scrolls by so quickly its a “blink and you’ll miss it” teaser. But when you see it, it is hard to miss. The sixth sweater the video flashes to see. That white with the powder blue and burgundy. Those are Avalanche/Nordique colors right there!
No denying it. That is the Nordique’s powder blue in the numbers. Though it does look like the powder blue will be the secondary color rather than the primary. So the reverse retro jersey for the Avalanche will likely be modeled after the home sweater’s for the Nordiques. Not the iconic powder blue away sweaters. No doubt they look beautiful, but it is a bummer that we won’t be seeing Nathan Mackinnon and company tearing it up in the powder blue sweaters. As long as it has some powder blue and the fleur-de-lis somewhere I’ll be happy.
The other teaser that caught my eye immediately was the one for the L.A. Kings. For the longest time the team has donned a black and silver sweater, but at one time they had the purple and gold just like the Lakers. Now it looks like the team will be paying homage to their purple and gold roots.
Purple and gold is a sweet color scheme. It sucks that the only team that uses it is the Lakers. Now it looks like the Kings will get a chance or two to rock the iconic colors again.
The sweater and logo that I want to see the NHL bring back to most with this “Reverse Retro” is the Mighty Ducks. The purple and teal color combination is disgusting, but the Mighty Ducks logo is one of the best logos in hockey. Maybe all of sports. Such a shame that the Anaheim Ducks moved away from that logo. This “Reverse Retro” jersey gives them a chance to go back to one of the best logos in sports, and god I hope they do it.
